case study - Web AR

PURPOSE:

To develop the technical specifications for a web-based AR content system.

Technical Specifications for WebAR

  • Content Management System: where you can simply drag and drop any video you'd like into the file hosting server.

  • video attachment to indicate the process.

  • File format specification for video is .mp4

  • Any solid color background in the video, as long as the color does not appear within the actual video content

Features:

  • both image target & SLAM tracking on the AR content side.

  • Self service upload of videos is a custom feature which can build bespoke for you,

  • using a script that allows the iframe URL to update automatically, and allowing you to host the new videos within your own server.

  • Embed this AR experience inline, within an existing website e.g. smallstage.ca

  • This is done through the use of an iframe.

USER Story:

  • The user opens their camera and is prompted to open a web browser.

  • QR code takes users to the Small Stage website page which has this interactive app on it.

  • video content will pop up and play on a camera-facing plane.

  • Once over, credits and information would be displayed.

  • The intention is to have an installation with several QR codes inside of the diorama. Each QR code will have its own animation.

CONCLUSIONS:

We found an on-line service that provided everything we wanted.

8th Wall's platform offers a complete set of tools to create interactive web-based augmented reality — no app required.

  • Lead time for this project would be between 2 - 3 weeks?

  • Film video (with sound) on green screen.

  • Content under 20 seconds.

  • MOV or MP$ file format.
