Design Thinking Process

Each of the three main toolkits integrated a design thinking process throughout the teaching, integration, development and implementation.

The process consisted of tools more familiar to software development environments that include:

1) an ideation process (generation of personas, user stories, storyboarding and the interrogation of design ideas);

2) user-testing mindset;

3) content development.

Ideation: Design Thinking Workshops

Two design thinking sessions were facilitated; one with Small Stage and the other at a larger brainstorming event following the initial session. Tools that were used included a timeline tool, a prioritization tool, and a big ideas map.

The second session done with a larger group of installation artists allowed Small Stage incubators to listen and discover how other interactive installations were being thought of, brainstormed and prototyped.
